Let’s Start Talking: A Trip to the Harz

Let’s Start Talking: A Trip to the Harz

For the last 2 weeks we have had our Let's Start Talking team with us. On their first Saturday here we took them to the Harz. Last year when the team went to the Harz I (David) couldn't go because a wonderful little girl decided to enter the world on the day of the trip. :-)

English Church Service 2015

English Church Service 2015

On June 28th we had our annual English church service at the Christusgemeinde.  I requested that we pray that 10 Let's Start Talking readers attend the service.  God did not answer that prayer. He did provide 10 guests though!  That is very successful.  There have been years where no guests or readers attend. We are going through The Story right now and I preached on the younger part of David's life.  I talked about how David had a heart after God's and how we should too. It was Matt and Michael's (our first team) last day with us and Denise and Marrisa (our second team) first day. We...

This 18th Century Hymn Proves Life has always had Distractions

We have many distractions today.  Distractions that turn our attention away from God.  Wouldn't it have been great to live in the 1700's when there were less distractions? It must have been so much easier to keep one's attention fixated on God and His will. Or was it? There lived a pastor by the name of Robert Robinson in the 18th century.  He also is known for writing the popular hymn Come Thou Fount of Every Blessing. The 4th verse goes like this, O to grace how great a debtor Daily I'm constrained to be! Let Thy goodness, like a fetter, Bind my wandering heart to Thee: Prone...

Introducing the Let’s Start Talking Team for 2014

Introducing the Let’s Start Talking Team for 2014

The Cook Family:  Matt, Dana, Darby (14), Quinn (12) and Ainsley (6) are from Canadian, Texas.  Canadian is a small, rural community in the northern part of the state where cowboys on horseback are still common.  Matt is a minister and Dana is a secretary.  Their 3 children are students busy with school and sports. In 2011, Matt and Dana visited Peine and loved the people and their city.  Through their connection with people there, they welcomed Lena Kühne, a Peine high school student, into their family while she attended school at Canadian High School in 2012-2013.  The Cooks are very...

Scriptures for Communion Meditations

Scriptures for Communion Meditations

Isaiah 53:3-6 He was despised and rejected by men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief; and as one from whom men hide their faces he was despised, and we esteemed him not. Surely he has borne our griefs and carried our sorrows; yet we esteemed him stricken, smitten by God, and afflicted. But he was pierced for our transgressions; he was crushed for our iniquities; upon him was the chastisement that brought us peace, and with his wounds we are healed. All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned—every one—to his own way; and the Lord has laid...
