The Rapps Joining the Knapps

The Rapps Joining the Knapps

Well,  it is long overdue to update and tell everybody what we have been doing for the past month.  David and I enjoyed 3 busy weeks at the end of May and beginning of June reading with our LST Readers.  We already mentioned that we had about 40 sign up with us.   So we were very busy.  On top of that, we visited a school in Peine (Burgschule) and talked to 9th graders practicing their English. In between, Randy and Katy have had several grill parties.  At these grill parties the Smelsers invite their English classes from the Volkshochschule (Adult Education Center).  So we enjoy an evening...

Schützenfest in Stederdorf, Germany

Schützenfest in Stederdorf, Germany

Schützenfest in Stederdorf, Germany from David & Amanda Knapp on Vimeo. Schützenfest is like a carnival with several parades that last over an entire weekend. I believe the festivities started on Friday morning and lasted until basically Monday night. Schützenfest is celebrated in everyone town; this happened to be our weekend. It is a gathering of marksmen. We saw men with uniforms decorated with several medals. We decided to go to the fest Saturday night about 10PM. There was a tent with lots of people waiting for a concert drinking beer, bumper cars, booths to shoot targets...

Bring It On

Bring It On

Last night, we had our first Let's Start Talking information meeting for 2010.  Two years ago when we did this, we had maybe 5-7 people show up.  So needless to say my expectations for a big show was minimal.  Well, what do you know God proved me wrong.  Last night we had 38 people come to the meeting and sign up for English Lessons.  God is Good!!!  This is a way bigger turnout than I ever thought would happen, so I am very excited. Today I have started with my first reader, and all is going well.  Then I got a phone call, yet another person wants to sign up -- hooray!  Wow, now how to schedule...

Annual Easter Scavenger Hunt by Grandma

Annual Easter Scavenger Hunt by Grandma

Easter Yard Darts from David & Amanda Knapp on Vimeo. For the past several years Grandma Laver has spiced up Easter egg hunting for us big kids. She hides our Easter baskets somewhere on her and Grandpa's property. The trick is that you have to go scavenger hunting all around the town of Gas City finding your clues and figuring out what they mean. She usually has around 5 clues a piece for us. Well, if you know me (Amanda) at all, you know that I am kind of slow at understanding clues. To see who won this year, you will just have to watch the video.

Amanda’s Adventures

I just wanted to tell you about my job opportunities that have become available. I will start with Community Support Services the last week of June to help kids with mental disabilities. I have had some experience with the mental health center in my hometown and loved it, so thought I would try it here. Also I am planning on starting a paraprofessional position this next school year. I have had two interviews concerning the elementary age level. Next week I should hear from the schools to see if I am hired. I am so excited. I love jobs dealing with kids because they are such a joy and fun to be around....
