In Love for 7 Years

In Love for 7 Years

My husband was the sweetest thing for our 7th anniversary.  He is such a romantic.  I don't deserve it.  I am terrible when it comes to romantic things.  He was trying to be sweet and was flirting with me yesterday, and what did I do.  Totally, didn't catch on and flirt back.  Anyway, he was so amazing.  He got me flowers and took me out to eat.

The Infamous Belsen Concentration Camp

The Infamous Belsen Concentration Camp

Warning: Some Pictures are Graphic! David and I went to visit the Bergen-Belsen concentration camp with our friends: Randy, Katy, Marcel, Adam, and Cathy.  There are no words to express what we saw.  The entire museum is so moving.  We saw a short film, several pictures, and different articles from the original camp. We have posted some pictures here, but as a warning some are very graphic.  If you click on the pictures below, there is a description to give you more information. Helpful info:  SS (Schutzstaffel = elite guard) and Wehrmacht (the German Armed Forces) Registration...

Smelser’s Großer Garten

Smelser’s Großer Garten

[This is part of the Odds and Ends 2010 series.] Who needs the Herrenhäuser Gärten in Hannover when you can just enjoy the beauty of Randy and Katy Smelser's backyard for free?  David and I had the opportunity to take care of it while they were on furlough in the States.  Here are some of the pictures I took of all the pretty things in their garden.

Homemade Cake Decorating

Homemade Cake Decorating

My parents have given me cake decorating supplies for years as gifts for Christmas or Birthdays.  Well, I have finally been able to use them. I had so much fun decorating with my friend Sri from Sri Lanka.  This was Sri's first time to decorate a cake.  We took the same German language class together.  From time to time, we try to get together to practice our German. Here are some cake decorating photos:

Church Camp in Gemünden, Germany

Church Camp in Gemünden, Germany

I had a wonderful experience at my very first German camp in Gemünden, Germany. Gemünden is pretty close to Frankfurt. Susan Bratcher, works at our sister church in Hildesheim, and we were the cooks for the whole week. It was a kid's camp with kids ages 10-15.  We had about 40 people total with a little over half of that being the kids. I spent most of my time in the kitchen cooking. I really thought that by the time I would be home I would miss Dave (because he did not come) and I wouldn't want to cook anymore. Well, I did really miss Dave. This was the first time that we had been separate...

Amanda’s German Garden Work

Amanda’s German Garden Work

Leaf Me Alone Nothing like a hard day's work in the Smelser's garden.  Ok, well it took me a lot longer than one day.  I really did enjoy working out in the garden, but I have to say the thing I hated the most was picking up all those leaves.  So I wished all the leaves would just go away and "leaf me alone." So it started out picking cherries off the cherry tree, raking up all the cherries when they fell on the ground, picking weeds, picking blackberries off the blackberry bush, making sure the roses were up to par, cutting the hedge, David and I raking the moss out of the ponds, David...

Stederdorf Weihnachtsmarkt

Stederdorf Weihnachtsmarkt

Stederdorf, Germany Christmas Market In 2005 David and I missed the Stederdorf Christmas Market because he was in the hospital.  Today was our first time to visit our hometown's Christmas Market. Because it is a very small market it only lasts one day.  Each year some people from the church walk over to it after Sunday service.  In order to see the fun click a picture for the gallery.

Social Get Togethers (LST 2010)

Social Get Togethers (LST 2010)

Part of our LST project includes organizing Social Get Togethers with all of our Readers. I organized two, and Craig Rapp organized the other two. We had lots of fun. Some of the things we did included: playing Taboo, Apples to Apples, Job Guessing, Who am I?, Pictionary, and water balloon games. These were four fun-filled Thursdays. We always met on Thursdays at 7PM so everyone would not forget the special occasion. We had several readers come. And I believe two nights had over 20 participants. Here are some pictures.
