25th Braunschweig Nachtlauf

25th Braunschweig Nachtlauf

I haven't been in a race since high school and even then it wasn't longer than 200 meters.  Friday night I ran in my first ever long distance race.  It was at the 25th annual Braunschweig Nachtlauf and my race started at 10:15pm. The distance was 6200 meters (3.85 miles) and it took me 39 minutes and 36 seconds.  I came in 628th place.  My goal was to run the race without stopping, which I was able to accomplish. Now I am training so I will be able to run a 10K.  Below are some photos of the night.

When Christ Ascends to Heaven, We Play Softball

When Christ Ascends to Heaven, We Play Softball

When Christ ascends to heaven, we play softball (Thursday was Christ's Ascension Day).  Last Thursday it was Hildesheim versus Peine... versus teenagers, I think.  The team I was on came in last but we did better in points than we did last year. The other team had huge bulky men who could hit the ball out of the park.  I don't care that we lost because it was still a lot of fun.  Also, the weather was nice.

Wintry Mix in Peine, Germany

Wintry Mix in Peine, Germany

[This is part of the Odds and Ends 2010 series.  Go check out the other posts!] Today in Peine, Germany it is 80 degrees!  It's not the 100 degrees that we get in Oklahoma or Kansas but when one is used to German weather 80 is pretty warm.  Also keep in mind that we don't have air conditioners. No matter where you live there is a good chance that today you are staying out of the heat.  Here are some photos that we took last November.  Hope it cools you off a bit.

Smelser’s Großer Garten

Smelser’s Großer Garten

[This is part of the Odds and Ends 2010 series.] Who needs the Herrenhäuser Gärten in Hannover when you can just enjoy the beauty of Randy and Katy Smelser's backyard for free?  David and I had the opportunity to take care of it while they were on furlough in the States.  Here are some of the pictures I took of all the pretty things in their garden.

See Ya Later Brett and Heather Seybold

See Ya Later Brett and Heather Seybold

[This is part of the Odds and Ends 2010 series.  Go check out the other posts!] Finding the Seybolds in these photos is like trying to find Waldo!  Brett and Heather are at there "last" Spieleabend while living in Germany. My friend Olaf is trying to explain to me how to play the game of Risk.  At one point I was very tired and kind of wanted to lose so I tried really hard at not trying.  Then I started winning.  I played the whole game and came in 2nd.
