The Knapp’s Life in Germany

Greetings from Germany,

We are David and Amanda Knapp.  Since May 2010 we have been working in Peine, Germany with Randy and Katy Smelser at the Christusgemeinde (Christ Church). While at Ozark Christian College, we were interns here for 10 months (2005-2006) and led a Let’s Start Talking missions trip to Peine in 2008.

Why Germany?

Germany is a land of church buildings and over 60% are still members of the State Church (either Lutheran or Catholic) but it is a spiritual wasteland (ideaSpektrum 2/2009). 65% of all Germans believe there is nothing after death (iS 13/2010).

30% of the population are atheists, 20+% of the “Christians” (members of the State Church) are also atheists with another almost 30% of the “Christians” believing in a New Age type of God (iS 13 + 30/2009).

What are we doing?

We are using an effective way of meeting people and sharing our faith: a program called Let’s Start Talking. This last summer over 50 people came to LST, allowing us to read from the book of Luke with Germans who would like to improve their conversational English skills.

Most of our “Readers” have never had contact with a believer and never really read the Bible before, and we are happy to introduce them to Jesus! They ask many questions and we answer. After an LST group leaves, we do the follow-up work, for example: we continue reading with 10 people and have 11 teenagers from atheistic homes who now come to youth group and other church activities.

We need help!

First, we need Prayer Warriors, who are willing to read our updates and support us through the power of prayer.

Second, we need people who can support us financially. Any amount always helps in big ways. If you or your church would like to know more about our ministry, please contact us.

Because of Jesus,

David and Amanda Knapp
